Now that is what I call very good advice.
I think in terms of: LEARN HOW TO ACT NOT REACT
You can avoid regretting something said or done by taking a few minutes (and a few breaths) before 'reacting' to a comment / situation. If one of your buttons was pushed - take few deep breaths and only then decide what should come next.
Maybe it is better to walk away and respond at a later time? You will only know what is right for you if you do not 'react'.
