What a fabulous and creative way to assess a job candidate. Checking them out form their physical closeness comfort level, how they handle themselves in a crisis (when its not about them), their passion, empathy and open-heartedness.
In the end looking forward to going to work rather than dreading it is the goal. Or at least this should be the goal for companies. In order to achieve this it just might be about choosing the right people. Finding the ones that not only have the motivation and drive but also the emotional strength, healthy values, respect and integrity.
This is a wonderful and creative way to assess candidates ... and much harder to 'fool' than all the typical types of assessment tools used.
Most clients come to coaching to upgrade and enhance their life skills. The skills needed to handle difficult bosses, uncommunicative team members and a variety of other interpersonal skills. It takes emotional strength i.e. emotional intelligence to create a good working environment for yourself as well as work / life balance.
I imagine this young man, who clearly has a natural level of emotional intelligence, will do well no matter where he works. Wishing him all and only the best and always the strength to deal with the obstacles and tests life throws at all of us.
